Another day in Chicago, another snowstorm

I’m not sure about the exact number, but I believe this makes 10, the number of major snow dumps since New Year’s Eve. I still love being in the snow, but I don’t have to drive or commute. People are stressed and tired of it and I can’t say I blame them. This is my fifth winter in Chicago and by far the coldest one with the most snow. The temperature got up to 39 degrees today and on Thursday could bump 50, but the respite will be short. Single digit temperatures will be back at the tail end of the weekend and into early next week. If it’s going to be cold, I say let it show, let it snow, let it snow.

What’s better than an eight ounce Coke in a bottle, wait a second I just remembered – nothing

As of four weeks ago, no gluten. Hooray, gluten is gone.

Madonna della Strada

altarThe Madonna della Strada is the heart and soul of Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore campus. Madonna della Strada is a chapel on the campus of Loyola University Chicago in the neighborhood of Rogers Park, Chicago: it is named after the motherchurch of the Jesuit Province of Chicago (one of the largest Jesuit provinces). The chapel was built on the lakefront with the waters of Lake Michigan directly at its front doorstep. The church was designed and built at a time when it was anticipated that Lake Shore Drive would be extended and pass directly in front, but that project was abandoned.
Renovation of Madonna della Strada began in July 2006 and concluded in August 2007.Several chapel churches in Latin America were named after the chapel church in Chicago, as a tribute to Loyola University Chicago Jesuit and student missionaries. The Madonna Della Strada Chapel is the main chapel on the Lake Shore Campus of Loyola University Chicago. The chapel was designed in the Art Deco Style and opened its doors to the Loyola University Chicago Community in 1938. Nothing much to see here folks, move back, please move back. Just a few shots of a city train and some goofy driving.

Pigeon fort and minus 5

Crafty birds those pigeons are, very crafty. Pigeons were imported to the United States in the 1600s. Prior to their arrival they bedded in cliffs, hunted and generally lived in small flocks. They’ve traded roofs, window seals and ledges for the rugged cliffs and McDonald’s french fries for prey of the past. The pigeons no longer segregate which has led to the massive ferrel problem. Everyone is a pal. Tonight it’s getting down into the minus single digits and, of course, the wind makes it all the colder. These two love birds found a warm grate and it’s like a magnet, they don’t wander far before returning to the heat. It turns out pigeons can survive just fine in most of the cold mother nature blows their way. I’m not a lover, but I was glad to know these dirty birds can survive. I did find out something that might better endear pigeons to people, they are monogamous often breeding for life. pigeons
