24 MPH is a Ticket to Ride

Holly is the main artery through downtown Bellingham. Starting at Holly and Ellis, if you travel 24 MPH you will make every stop light non-stop to Bay Street. That’s seven lights. Big-time kudos to Bellingham’s traffic engineering department.

Rising Costs in Whatcom County

This is a great piece of journalism and a critically import story regarding the rising cost of living faced by all families in Whatcom County appearing in the Cascadia Daily News.

Bellingham’s Fishing Fleet

Commercial fishing in Bellingham is anchored in Squalicum Harbor, serving as a hub for local Puget Sound, tribal, and Alaskan salmon and crab fleets. Summer rewind 2025

I got the idea for this site about a year ago. I started taking photos and finding stories starting in June, but I didn’t get around to posting my content until now. So for those of you longing for Bellingham’s stunning summers, here are a few reminders of what was and what will be in another six months.

Chicago Police Department

cop-cars

I’ve always loved Chicago police cars. Unlike NYC’s spit and polish cruisers, CPD’s cars look like they been in chases, crashes and had bullets shot through them. Many have. The city is modernizing its fleet and cars like this will no longer be seen on the street. I’ll miss them. On the subject of CPD, there are about 12,000 Chicago police on the city payroll. Approximate budget for the year is $1.3 billion. According to the CPD homepage, police start off at $48,000 and get bumped to $72,500 after 18 months.
