Pair of pictures

My first model

marshalls bag I am not a technical photographer. I don’t know what all the knobs do and I never will. I don’t want to know because it doesn’t concern me. I know about the one’s I need and like, but it’s not many. My background is a run and gun TV photographer. Shooting still pictures is difficult. I sure do love doing it, though. I’ve never staged or posed a shot with the exception of this bag. I think it’s a nice picture, but I’m not sure exactly why that is. What I do know is I like the color of the background and the focus on the camouflage side of the $2.50 Marshalls bag. I probably spent 30 minutes shooting the bag which is about 25 minutes longer than anything else I take pictures of.

Another Chicago Snow Storm

Last year I think it snowed twice in Chicago. This year it’s one big blanket of snow after another. Hate cold weather, but love the snow. In two different early morning hours it snows about two inches. That’s getting close to no visibility. I love the snow because it changes the world for a few hours. And then people wake up. Sheesh.

Another Chicago Winter Storm

http://vimeo.com/84647732 This was only hour one of what is expected to be a 10-12 hour storm. Gusting winds up to 40 miles per hour. Lake effect snow. Temperature down to 7 degrees and an expected foot of snow. I’ve not seen it this windy since the blizzard a few years ago. I’ll be heading back in it in an hour or two. One of my favorite hobbies in Chicago.

Shots fired

Shots fired

One of common and most feared dispatcher calls is “shots fired.” About 10 CPD officers answered a call just two blocks away from Loyola on Sheridan. There were no injuries as far as anyone could tell. No blood. Just a dozen or so spent shells in the snow. For police another day at the office, but for residents, an increase in fear as two rival gangs are clashing more in a neighborhood neither had claimed before.

GoPro in the snow

Chicago has been receiving far more snow than in winter’s past. I really love it, but most people see it as a pain in the rear. At any rate just a little fast action movie of people speeding up in the snow.

The eye of the beholder, in this case mine

This is one of those lighted bus stop advertisement boxes at the corner of Chicago and State. This image cannot be seen when there is a lighted advertisement in the box which is why it took me off guard. I thought it was a piece from the Museum of Contemporary Art because it would not be out of place. After looking for a few minutes I realized it was graffiti which I generally detest. However, this — whatever this is — looked better than anything I’ve seen in the MCA because it’s not concocted. Grafitti
